Arrival Guide

Preparing ahead ensures you can focus on your role and enjoy the event. Please review the following guidelines and come prepared.


What to Bring

Required Items

Volunteer Credential
Your volunteer badge (if already issued) or an ID for check-in.

Appropriate Clothing
Dress for the weather. Expect long days outdoors. Light layers, rain gear, and sun protection are strongly recommended.

Sturdy Footwear
Closed-toe shoes or boots suitable for walking on uneven terrain.


Recommended Essentials

Water Bottle
Hydration stations are available; reusable bottles help keep you going.

Snacks
Light, quick snacks to maintain energy between breaks.

Sun Protection
Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.

Work Gloves
Useful for setup, teardown, logistics, and hands-on tasks.

Hearing Protection
Artillery demonstrations, blank-firing weapons, vehicles, and crowds can reach high noise levels. Foam earplugs or over-ear muffs are highly recommended.

Notebook & Pen (or phone notes)
Helpful for directions, tasks, and reminders.


Optional but Helpful

  • Portable phone charger / power bank
  • Small backpack or sling bag
  • Bug spray
  • Personal medication (volunteers are responsible for their own medical needs)

Do NOT Bring

  • Weapons or replica weapons (unless you are a registered reenactor with approved impression)
  • Alcohol or illegal substances
  • Pets (except service animals)

Volunteer Parking & Transportation

Primary Volunteer Parking – Conneaut High School

Location: Mill Street / Jackson Street

This is the main parking area for volunteers. Shuttle buses transport volunteers from the lot to the event grounds.

What to Expect

  • Shuttle buses run continuously throughout the day
  • Arrive 45–60 minutes before your shift to allow for travel and boarding
  • Wristbands and check-in may occur at the event site, depending on assignment

Overflow Parking – PNC Dock (Day Street)

If the High School lot is full, volunteers may be redirected to the PNC Dock lot.

What to Expect

  • Follow signage and coordinator instructions
  • This is a walking lot
  • Be prepared for a short walk to the museum and main park entrance

Volunteer Check-In Procedures

Volunteer Check-In Location

Volunteer Check-In is located at Good Shepherd Church, where volunteers will sign in and receive daily guidance and support.

Responsibilities at Check-In

  • Greet volunteers with a positive first impression
  • Ensure each volunteer signs in daily (paper or tablet)
  • Provide basic assistance and direct volunteers as needed
  • Light computer or tablet experience is helpful

Volunteer Tent operates 7:30 AM – 12:00 PM, with extended hours as needed.
